Location

Limuru town is located on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley, approximately 35 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, the capital and largest city of Kenya. Though fairly small (with a population of about 5000 people), Limuru holds significant recognition in Kenya as a notable tea-producing and processing zone. Since 1903, the tea plantations established around Limuru have served as the backbone of Kenya’s largest export industry – renowned for producing some of the finest tea in the world.

For those seeking adventure beyond the town’s borders, Limuru offers proximity to breathtaking destinations such as the Great Rift Valley, the renowned Maasai Mara, and some of Africa’s most exquisite beaches along the East African coast. During weekends, participants can explore these captivating landscapes, encounter Africa’s iconic wildlife thriving in its natural habitat, and immerse themselves in the culture of the Maasai community.

Project Work

Medical Support and Assistance

Working alongside dedicated nurses and doctors, participants will play a vital role in supporting overcrowded and under-resourced healthcare facilities. With staff shortages, volunteer assistance goes a long way in providing much-needed care for patients.

Home Based Care

In rural communities within Limuru, participants will collaborate with local caregivers to deliver essential medical outreach services. This experience offers an opportunity to be immersed in Kenya’s traditional way of life while attending to those who lack easy access to healthcare. Practical involvement will include providing basic treatments, regular check-ins, valuable advice, and, if necessary, facilitating referrals to hospitals or clinics. During this journey, meaningful relationships can be built as participants offer comfort, lend a listening ear, and share life-saving knowledge.

Health Education and Awareness

In addition to hands-on support, participants will actively engage in health education and awareness workshops. Volunteers will be responsible for setting up and facilitating workshops on topics directly related to the community’s health challenges. By sharing crucial knowledge and spreading awareness, individuals will be empowered to make informed decisions and embrace lifestyle changes that can significantly improve their well-being.
