We’re honored to have attended the 19th Annual Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN) Winter Institute at The Athenian School in Danville, California.

ISEEN provides a global platform that brings together experiential educators, administrators, and classroom teachers from independent schools. It provides a space for sharing challenges and successes, exchanging insights from model programs, and exploring the evolving role of experiential practices in our educational communities.

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, The Athenian School was founded on experiential education principles and has a rich history with experiential education pedagogy.

This year’s Winter Institute’s Theme was Rooted in Experiential Education: Finding Our Places to Flourish. It delved into how students can grow through place-based experiential learning. Participants had the opportunity to engage in professional and affinity spaces.

The following key questions were addressed:

  • How should we integrate experiential education into the teaching and learning process at our schools and institutions?
  • How do we equip students with the necessary conscience, courage, and skills to effectively contribute to social change and justice?
  • How can we place cultural competency at the core of our experiential learning pedagogy and practice?
