EDU Africa attended this year’s Workshop on Intercultural Skills Enhancement (WISE) Conference.

WISE is a ground-breaking conference hosted by Wake Forest University for faculty leaders, program coordinators, and administrators. Its goal is to help these professionals acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to support students in improving their intercultural skills and awareness. The focus is on preparing students for experiences abroad and life after college.

This year’s keynote was on Shifting the Paradigm Around Intercultural Learning in Higher Education. One of the biggest challenges we face today is creating a society where everyone can peacefully coexist. Higher education has a responsibility to help students develop intercultural skills so they can actively contribute to building a better world. The question is, how can we achieve this goal effectively?

To many educators and institutions, it will require a shift from the current ways of approaching intercultural learning. Tara Harvey, Ph.D., based on many years of experience in developing intercultural competency, both inside and outside the classroom, shared how the understanding of intercultural learning and development has significantly changed over the years.
