October has proven to be a remarkable month for EDU Africa, characterized by significant milestones and achievements that underscore our commitment to provide transformative learning journeys across Sub-Saharan Africa.

We kicked off the month on a high note by receiving the esteemed award for the Best Education Abroad Provider at the 2024 Global Youth Travel Awards, hosted by WYSTC in Lisbon, Portugal. This achievement highlights our dedication to developing and facilitating meaningful educational experiences that extend beyond traditional classroom settings, while introducing students from around the world to the richness of our continent. We are grateful for the support of our partners and participants who make our mission possible.

Additionally, our talented Program Designer, Jacqueline Irimu, had the incredible opportunity to attend the inaugural UNESCO Chair Conference on Intercultural Competence in Nairobi, Kenya, from October 14 to 15. During this pivotal conference, she presented on the role of intercultural partnerships in enhancing and promoting intercultural competence. At EDU Africa, we don’t think of intercultural competence as a “skill” that can give our students a competitive edge – we think of it as a global game-changer. Jacqueline’s insights further contribute to our ongoing efforts to foster global understanding and collaboration, further solidifying our role as thought leaders in international education.

October also highlighted the dedication of another Program Designer, Prisca Nangabo, who traveled to the United States to attend a function hosted by the Washington State Beekeepers Association (WASBA). The gathering celebrated the contribution of Professor Steve Sheppard, an entomology professor at Washington State University (WSU) with whom Prisca collaborated on a program in Kenya earlier this year. During the event, she engaged in discussions about the potential for developing study-abroad programs focussed on beekeeping in Kenya and across Africa. This engagement reflects our commitment to connecting diverse academic disciplines and promoting sustainable practices through education. We extend our gratitude to Washington State University for this invaluable experience!

As we reflect on the highlights of this month, we are grateful for not only the significant milestones but also in the smaller, everyday successes that our team accomplishes on the ground. We look forward to what lies ahead in the coming months, as we continue to build on our successes and expand our offerings. Thank you for being an integral part of our journey towards making Africa our classroom.
