Promoting Environmental Justice and Social Responsibility through Biocultural Spaces

Multi-Country
Online Global Learning

Our Programs >> Online Global Learning >> Ecology & Conservation

When we look at environmental challenges on a global scale, it becomes clear that the consequences of environmental degradation affect vulnerable communities the most.

This program uses a case study approach to explore the interconnectedness between environmental injustice and social issues in an African context, and it showcases how individuals, communities, and organizations are working towards finding solutions for these challenges. The sessions are designed to be interactive and aim to encourage students to actively participate by exploring their curiosity and engaging in discussions with contributors from Africa and their student peers. Through both synchronous engagements and an asynchronous assignment using the photovoice methodology, students will be prompted to discover their own biocultural spaces, enabling them to acknowledge and contemplate environmental and social justice in their context. Furthermore, participants will be encouraged to recognize their agency to advocate for environmentally healthier living spaces, both locally and globally.
