At EDU Africa, we are committed to being part of the global conversation on transformative learning experiences. Conferences provide a valuable platform for us to engage with international educators, share insights, and explore new ways to shape meaningful educational journeys.

Between January and March, our Founder and Director, Michael Massingham, had the privilege of attending the following conferences within the international education industry:

The ISEEN Winter Institute

The Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN) Winter Institute set the tone for an inspiring year. This gathering of experiential educators emphasized the power of hands-on learning, pushing boundaries beyond traditional classrooms. Michael engaged with like-minded educators to discuss how immersive experiences, such as our faculty-led programs in Africa, can foster deep learning and personal growth.

The Independent Schools Experiential Education Network’s (ISEEN) 20th Winter Institute set the tone for an inspiring year. Hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from 28 – 31 January, under the title “What’s our Impact? Relationships as the Future of Experiential Education,” the conference brought together educators and industry professionals who are passionate about experiential learning — a cornerstone of EDU Africa’s approach.

The gathering emphasized the power of hands-on learning and pushing boundaries that extend beyond traditional classrooms. Michael engaged with like-minded professionals, sharing ideas on how we can create more meaningful, reflective learning experiences in diverse global contexts.

CCID’s 49th Annual Conference

February took us to Community Colleges for International Development’s (CCID) 49th Annual Conference, where Michael had the honor of presenting. This year’s theme, “Setting a Standard: Strengthening Communities Through Global Education”, resonated deeply with us.

At EDU Africa, we strongly believe that international and cross-cultural experiences have the power to foster empathy, expand worldviews, and equip students with the skills needed to thrive in an interconnected world.

Engaging with global education professionals at CCID gave us fresh perspectives and invaluable insights into how we can continually improve our programs for community college students visiting the continent. EDU Africa values the strong relationships we have built with community colleges over the years, and it was a privilege to be part of the 2025 conference in Washington, D.C.

Wake Forest University’s WISE Conference

We ended off the month at Wake Forest University’s WISE Conference. The WISE Conference provided another excellent platform to learn, share, and reflect. With a focus on work, internships, study abroad, and experiential learning, this conference allowed us to dive deeper into the evolving needs of students, faculty, and institutions as they engage with international programs.

WISE is known for bringing together forward-thinking educators who are redefining learning for the future, making it the perfect space to exchange ideas on how cross-cultural experiences can enrich students’ educational journeys. From best practices in student safety to innovative program design, WISE offered rich discussions and tangible takeaways that we are excited to integrate into our own programming at EDU Africa.

Our participation in these conferences is more than just networking—it’s about being part of the global movement to make education more immersive, inclusive, and impactful. As we engage with educators worldwide, we are continually refining our programs to ensure that students and faculty who travel with EDU Africa experience learning in ways that are authentic, transformative, and deeply meaningful.
